I’ve been playing Super Mario World on my Apple TV, and I absolutely love it. I’m able to do this by loading an emulator called Provenance on my Apple TV. You won’t find Provenance in the App Store, but Apple has given us the ability to sideload apps ourselves, and Provenance is one such app that can be sideloaded.

You are probably aware that you can disable password prompts altogether for free downloads made on your iPhone, iPod touch, iPad and Mac. As an added layer of protection, iOS and OS X will either require your Apple ID password for each paid download or after fifteen minutes of making your last purchases in the iTunes Store, App Store, iBooks Store or Mac App Store, depending on your preference.

Your brand spanking new Apple TV does a lot of nice things pretty well, and some really cool ones Apple hasn’t even mentioned officially.

As first discovered by developer Steve Stroughton-Smith, the set-top box can actually render stereoscopic 3D content provided an app has implemented the functionality and the customer owns a 3D-enabled TV set to enjoy it on.

Microsoft folds Sunrise functionality into much-improved Outlook for iOS app

Developers of Microsoft-owned calendar app, called Sunrise, announced in a blog post that the app won’t be receiving updates going forward as the team has worked hard on integrating Sunrise functionality into the Windows maker’s much-improved mobile Outlook client for iPhone and iPad.

Sunrise Calendar was last updated in the App Store more than four months ago, adding integration with Office 365 events. Just yesterday, Outlook for iOS received a fresh new look alongside a brand native Apple Watch app built on watchOS 2.

As the new Apple TV is scheduled to hit Apple’s retail stores tomorrow, first reviews are now in. Journalists who were given a chance to spend some quality time with review units are praising evolutionary improvements to the living room experience while highlighting untapped potential for the refreshed $149 device.
